Establishment of this health facility

It was in 1927 when the first building was erected under the  name of Pretoria Algemene Hospital, which then was     changed in  the 1940s to HF Verwood Hospital after a need for an academic
hospital in the area arose. And in the 1990s the name changed  again into Pretoria Academic Hospital.

Different sites which formed Pretoria Academic Hospital Complex

Due to limited office space some of the services like Maternity, were at cnr Belvedere & Bestir str in Arcadia (now Lebone EMS College) and Ear & Nose services were rendered at Cnr Prinsloo & Skinner in town. All these sites were part of the integrated Pretoria Academic hospital in Cnr Dr. Savage and Voortrekker RD.

Outcomes of GDoH objective to separate levels of care

PAH was rendering a comprehensive level 1,2 & 3 health serice to the community until it was decided that it has to render only level 3 services as a tertiary hospital. In 2005 PAH had to only move with level 3 cases into their new premises, but that had to happen without breakdown in service delivery.

All secondary and level 1 cases were left behind in the hands of the insufficiently resourced new hospital know as TDH. Though TDH is a level 1 institution, it had to deal with the remaining secondary cases as there was no provision made for them.

The following people played a pivotal role in building TDH to be what it is today:

In 2005 Ms. Mouton, Dr. Padayche, Mr. Labotsky, Prof. Blitz-Lindeque, Mr. Ramoroka, Dr. Oosthuisen and etc. contributed immensely in the foundation stages of TDH. The first ever and current CEO of TDH, Mrs. Ubogu, joined the rest of the team in Feb 1st 2006.
